So we specially made a trip today to have lunch as we want to find out if the standard of the food served here will be the same as that in Taman Megah. We ordered the Ulu Yam Lor Mee which is suppose to be their specialty but find that it is just very ordinary. It is not recommended at all. The Assam Laksa is however highly ...

jamie writes: I am very health conscious and thus do not like deep fried oily food. I have actually passed by this fast food counter many times but the name '老油鬼鬼' gave me the impression that they serve all the oily stuffs so I have never bothered to check out their menu all these while. However after having walked for hours in 1Utama and felt that we need to sit down to rest our poor feet and have a light snack, we chanced to pass by '老油鬼鬼 I Love YOO!' and the menu of Set B offering You Tiao and Soya Bean @ RM3.90 caught my eye. I love soy milk and after checking out their you tiao which does not look ...

Malaysia © jamie (http://compassionate-vegetarians.blogspot.com/)jamie writes: Niche has always been one of my favorite vegetarian restaurants in Petaling Jaya and was quite happy when I found out that they had opened a branch in Taman Megah. However, during the day session the restaurant is still run by the old owners until 5.30pm when Niche will take over for the night session. Food being offered during this day session is good and delicious too. The chicken rice set comes with very tasty mock chicken, with soup, bean sprouts and chicken rice chilli. The kon loh mee is alright and the pan mee is hand torn pieces which makes it both chewable and smooth to the bite. Prices are very reasonable and portion very generous....

Malaysia © jamie (http://compassionate-vegetarians.blogspot.com/)jamie writes: Very busy organizing gatherings to catch up with old friends and this time it is another gathering with another set of friends. There were altogether 10 of us, so we could order more dishes to try out. My friends were happy with the food but I think they are not too happy with the place as it is very crowded during weekends. The air-conditioning is not strong enough to support the big crowd and as a result all of us were perspiring halfway through the food and the noise too is unbearable. We all have to speak very loudly causing our throats to dry out and turning coarse. Fortunately enough and correct timing too, the manager just presented us ...

Malaysia © jamie (http://compassionate-vegetarians.blogspot.com/)jamie writes: I am lucky to have very understanding friends who all do not mind to go vegetarian with me whenever we go for gatherings. This time around as one of them has some errands to run at State, Petaling Jaya, we then decided to go to Nature's Recipe Cafe which is around the area. Parking is quite difficult at lunch time on Friday as government staff get to enjoy a 2 and half hours off but fret not as there is ample parking space at Avenue 8 which is just a minute walk from this cafe. Service is good and the food served are delicious. This cafe is good to have a gathering as it is not ...

Malaysia © jamie (http://compassionate-vegetarians.blogspot.com/)jamie writes: I was checking out the website reading about different types of rice when I came across that glutinous rice has been bred to be particularly sticky and dense and although the name implies that the rice contains gluten, it is actually gluten free, with “glutinous” being used in the sense of “sticky” in this instance. I particularly love the stickiness texture of the rice and have set out to prepare a simple but delicious dish with it....

I love 'loh por bang' and bought 2 pieces which were normally priced at RM1.50 but now with the discount is only 90 sen a piece. It is not too bad but is beyond comparison with the ones which I bought from Singapore. jamie writes: Had a celebration and as some of our friends are not vegetarians we chose to go to Kimchi Haru in Jaya One as they also serve vegetarian dishes. In this way, we can get to please our friends as they get to eat their favorites and we get to order our food and celebrate together. The interior is simple and cosy. The vegetarian dishes we ordered were tasty and tea and appetizers served were all refillable. Good place to visit.Interior of Kimchi HaruOriginal Toppokki - RM 11...
jamie writes: It is so hot and humid nowadays that you do not feel like having heavy meals. Would like to have something very light like char kuey teow, so off to the market I enquired from the stall selling tofu for a packet of kuey teow that is suitable for frying. From the same stall you can also get bean sprout and tofu. It is very quick and easy to prepare and you do not have the guilty feeling of consuming the normally oily char kuey teow from the outside stalls. Let me share with you my recipe for this healthy dish.Home cooked char kuey teow...
