sakaesushi_newmenu
Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Its been quite some time and I am very excited of Sakae Sushi’s new menu. A new design on the menu with refreshing dishes of both past and present, I’d reckon that this is a step in the right move. After all, Sakae Sushi is simply more than just an affordable all you can eat buffet. It is about casual yet contemporary Japanese dining in a comfortable setting for everyone. First up for starters, I had ...

timsrestaurant
Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Who says you cannot enjoy a delicate rack of lamb in the suburbs of the city. Especially with the idyllic setting of a street side bistro, a view that engages your meal up close with the happenings of the neighbourhood, and the occasional queue that forms for the desire to strike 4D. There we have it, Tims Restaurant & Cafe right in the middle of Lorong 4 Toa Payoh housing estate.  ...

tarafuku
Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Sushi Tarafuku tags itself as a Fish Market and Japanese Restaurant. Strikingly, the combination of both ideas gives a feeling that the cuisine would be nothing less than fresh. It is the latest member of the Tampopo group and now part of the local Japanese food scene. My visit to the establishment today at 313@Somerset is because of mum’s rave reviews about the place after her visit yesterday. And of course, the promotional offer of 50% off if you visit within 3 days of your first visit is also a huge carrot being dangled. The restaurant is a mix of both casual dining ...

sakaeshabushabu
Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Finally I think that Sakae Sushi is almost completing the set of Japanese cuisine with its latest introduction of Shabu Shabu. First there was sushi, then sashimi, then teppanyaki, then sumiyaki, now its Japanese steamboat a la buffet style. To think that I travelled all the way to West Coast Plaza (former Ginza plaza) for a steamboat buffet. Well, to think about it now, it wasn’t bad at all. Quite good actually. And in a comfortable environment to  boot. Oh, and of course, its only natural that certain items on my order list were missed out by ...

Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Crystal Treasure Soup by my Uncle Chuan Beng First and foremost, a Happy Lunar New Year to all my readers out there! May this year be bountiful and full of prosperity! Its been busy these past few days with visits here and there, eating this eating that, and hardly time to engage with the blog. Still, I managed to grab a few pictures about my Lunar New Year festivity (and of course the food included as well) ...

crabvillage
Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Along the enclosures of the road to Sembawang Park, two coffeeshop-restaurants occupy a little plot of land and one of the establishments is named  “Crab Village”. And if I were to ever make it a competitive battle, Salted Egg Yolk crab would be my judgement of choice. Not to say that I am forgetting the ubiquitous Singapore Chilli Crabs, Black Pepper Crabs or Butter Crabs, it is just that the term “Salted Egg Yolk” is enough to whet anybody’s appetite. Somehow, the imagination of savoury, gritty yet smooth slightly saltish texture of the egg yolk ...

Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Okay, I got to admit that I have not been blogging for nearly a week. While my alter ego a.k.a Mr. Lazy was ruling, my stomach kept reminding me in an Oba-san sort of fashion (nagging) of Katong Jago’s Carrot Cake. I was on an assignment and one of the pit stops brought me to this coffeeshop. Somehow, nearly every table had a plate of carrot cake, so it had to be good. Right? Its the Singaporean nature to queue, crowd, order everything that is good. And the quirky atmosphere of cramped seats, shimmers of Sunday sunlight ...

auntiekim
Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Its a Sunday and I didn’t know what to eat. Occasionally, times like these do happen. Times where the tastebuds simply go null and the stomach blanks out in a perpetual dream state. I was itching to go somewhere, and like a kid jumping on a moving bandwagon with thinking, I said lets go eat Korean at Upper Thomson. In ten minutes, I was out with my Canon 1000D in a taxi and zooming in accelerator-clutch crazy fashion towards Upper Thomson road. I arrived exactly at 5pm, only to find the restaurant still snoozing in its ...

jade2
Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Jade, the choice of name for a Fine Dining Chinese restaurant is perhaps one of the most apt. While not overly exorbitant in sheer adjectives, the term alone leaves a sense of fineness, mystique, glimmer and most importantly, class. And it is the place of choice for my 20th birthday where I celebrated it with my family and most importantly my two grandmothers. Already in their twilight years, they are just like the fine pieces of shimmering green with its robust features and cool textures. And I must say that for my 20th birthday, this has been ...

Justin Daniel Pereira writes: Unagi Brown Rice (Teppan Sukiyaki Beef Set). Interestingly served in a hollowed Green Pepper. The last I blogged about Sakae Teppanyaki, it was for the set menu of Boston Lobsters. This time I’m going for the sets in the menu, and believe me, I was surprised when Sakae offered Foie Gras as a dish for teppanyaki. In this article, the pictures come from a variety of three sets. Namely, Beef Set (with that oh so Foie Gras), Teppan Sukiyaki Beef Set and the Seafood Set. ...
