keropok man writes: Three colleagues have gone to recce (or reconnaissance) the newly refurbished and renamed "West Coast Plaza". They saw a few restaurants opened for business and told us, we found a new place to eat. We will go next week.So the next week arrived. (ie few days ago) I got an early morning SMS to remind me to bring my Sushi Tei card. A colleague had $40 worth of vouchers and with the Sushi Tei card we can get another 10% off.Ah. West Coast Plaza looks different. But there's still hint of the old Ginza Plaza all around. If your memory's good, you can remember which shops were in which lots too. :-)The manager ... read more

keropok man writes: Every other weekend or so, the whole extended family will meet at Aunt's place for dinner. Aunt and her sis will whip up some dishes for the rest of us to enjoy. I have not taken food photos at her kitchen for some time, and this is last weekend's dinner. :-)The pork leg and sea cucumber dish. It was served in two bowls. One bowl with all the lean meat. The other bowl with the 'fattier meat'. LOL.Everyone in the family got own preference. With a bottle of her homemade sambal sauce ready, cooking the sotong dish is easy. Just have ... read more

keropok man writes: It's furniture shopping days these few weeks. Our family moved to a new place recently and we have been very busing packing and unpacking. Two days ago, we ordered some furniture from the Scanteak warehouse sale in the morning. In the afternoon, we continued our furniture shopping at Ikea. At Ikea we were surprised that the "Kitchen showroom" came alive. Ikea ladies were baking! The whole place had a wonderful aroma because they were making/baking Swedish Gingersnap, Swedish Cinnamon Buns and Swedish Soffron Bun. We tried some and they were delicious too. After spending a few hours looking at measurement, deciding on colour, we decided to break for dinner at the Ikea Restaurant. What did we have?... read more

keropok man writes: Lunch today was a farewell lunch in a very unusual place. A place where it's so peaceful and laid back, you can't imagine that such places still exist in Singapore. It was at the Bukit Timah Saddle Club, where you can smell the horses and have your lunch. Oh ya, the name of the place is Riders Cafe.R's going away after being in part of "Acad" side of the organisation for a very long time. Many people will miss him. Anyway, he had the Crab Au Gratin, which we were told is one of the favourite in this place. It's quite well done.... read more

keropok man writes: This was our family dinner on Sunday night. The nights are cool these days and it's nice to have porridge. I think there are many people who seems to be craving porridge these days too. (You know who you are. )We went to Prince Taiwan Porridge. There's two porridge places along this road.We noticed something though. People seem to shift their liking. Some weeks you see everyone goes to the Hokkien place, and the Cantonese one is quiet. On other weeks, the Cantonese ones are packed and only a few people at the Hokkien place. We wonder why?But as a Hokkien, we always seem to like this Hokkien porridge more. Cantonese porridge has dishes ... read more

Maybe the queue tells you that they are popular too.Don't be afraid of the queue, it gets to your turn rather quickly. Be afraid of what to order.
