Yes, at breakfast.A few weeks ago I read something that got my ire up: this article for travel site WorldHum , in which travel writer and author Eric Weiner argues for sticking with what you know for breakfast when on the road. For the traveler, breakfast grounds us in our home culture so we can work up the gumption to explore a new one. It also reminds us that however adventurous our spirit, however global our citizenship, we’re still products of a particular culture. At least once a day, preferably at the start of the day, we ...

Malaysia © Wilson Ng (http://www.placesandfoods.com/)Wilson Ng writes: MATTA Fair 2010 – 12th March Update A short one. I managed to go to Matta Fair 2010 today in the late afternoon today. The parking was full in PWTC and The Mall as well. Only managed to get valet parking at The Mall. The only reason I could think of is the school holiday today. Everywhere was jam and packed! While reaching PWTC, there were a group of girls approached me for a photo session. This was noon time and check out the queue. Took me 15 min to grab my tickets and time to go for window shopping, travel style. Sabah tourism is the highlights this year, taking the front booth together with Tourism Malaysia. ...

Malaysia © bangsar-babe (http://bangsar-babe.blogspot.com)bangsar-babe writes: I recently met up with an old friend, after many years of not seeing each other. One of the things we talked about was Bangkok -- the girls, the city and how I got ripped off the first time I went. But the food was good. And I couldn’t find anything close to the real deal in KL. Basil Thai Nudle Bar fell into the same category. While the food was alright, I thought it was too localised and ...

Since I haven’t been writing much about outstation travels around Perak, allow me to get back into the groove, and share a simple post about this restaurant (or rather, coffee shop?) that serves Taiping’s version of chicken noodle soup for breakfast. The name of the shop? Restoran Kakak.
One glance and you’d be forgiven for thinking [...]

Malaysia © Wilson Ng (http://www.placesandfoods.com/)Wilson Ng writes: AFC (Asian Food Channel) Icip Icip – Anis Nabilah Last week, I was invited to The Curve to meet the host of AFC (Asian Food Channel) Icip Icip – Anis Nabilah. In the beautiful Garden restaurant at the Curve, the talented young chef spoke about Icip Icip and also her life behind the kitchen scene. Like many other Malaysians that includes me, Anis also grew up watching Malaysia’s finest, Chef Wan. Her experiences working with Chef Wan is a dream comes true to her. She mentioned its hard for her to work hand to hand with her idol as there were so many questions to ask him. Yet, her collaboration with Chef Wan was memorable to her as she learned a lot ...

The food was found to be good even when prepared for a large banquet. So we took it as an indication of being a hidden gem worth trying. Moreover, the fact that [...]

Malaysia © Robyn Eckhardt (article) and David Hagerman (photographs) (http://eatingasia.typepad.com/eatingasia/)Robyn Eckhardt writes: Two days days ago we flew from Chiang Mai to Luang Prabang. We were last here in 1995. As might be expected, things have changed.Perhaps the biggest shock is the town at daybreak. Almost without exception, in Asia rising before dawn has guaranteed us peaceful near-empty streets. Not so here. By 6:30am Luang Prabang is buzzing with tourists, alone and in guided groups, many toting cameras and stalking alms-collecting monks like hunters in a wild game park. Not a pretty sight. But the small morning market in ...
NKOTB writes: Apart from Ivy’s Kitchen, I have not really explored the area – Burmah Square; and I’ve heard so much about Isaribi Tei from friends and colleagues, this is only my very 1st visit.Probably some high expectation from what I’ve heard, thus the food expectation was slightly disappointed me. To conclude it, just visit the place without any expectation probably that will make oneself more happy.Another reason could be the kitchen is closing at the required time, thus, the quality is way below the ...

(Post HERE still under my old blog) Had a bad dining experience there. Went there last night with 3 friends to have a try on the food since everyone gave them thumbs up. When I reached there around 6.30pm, only 1 table was occupied. Guess I was early for dinner. I was impressed by the shop deco and the menu they offer. While waiting for the food, more people came and finally every table was filled up. While we are trying to push all the food inside our terribly full tummy, the daughter kept asking us “Any further order?” She asked that every ...
