ieat writes: Whenever you walk into an eatery and see photos of stars adorning the walls, what is your first reaction? Well, I guess mine is the same as many others, which is "Ay this stall is frequented by all these movie stars, must be quite good". But you know, the stars are just like anyone else. There are some who are very discerning and others who just eat to live.If you had caught the episode of Makan Lost and Found on Seng Kee's Bak Chor Mee recently, you might have caught my brief cameo appearance. I was on the set that ... read more

kensongs writes: While Singaporeans generally like sliced fish bee hoon, I prefer sliced fish mee suah (fine vermicelli) because I feel that the soft consistency and rice flavour of mee suah goes very well with fish soup. When I was at Chomp Chomp to try Che Jian fried hokkien mee, I decided to try You Yi sliced fish mee suah too. Reasonably priced at $3, the fish mee suah comes with a satisfactory portion of mee suah topped with generous servings of sliced fish. The delicious fish soup is sufficiently clear and flavorful with no excessive tinge of fishiness. The sliced fish is fresh and tasty and ... read more

keropok man writes: Remember the wedding lunch the other day? After such a filling lunch a few people thought that we should go for coffee. There's always room for some drinks no matter how full you are. So during coffee, Eggs Benedict was suddenly brought up.Someone said we should go meet for breakfast and let's have Eggs Benedict at Choupinette. The guy who has become our unofficial outing organizer was tasked to send out email to see who will be interested. As usual, he passes the task to his sub committee to do it. (faints!) Anyway, the sub-committee was efficient and within 24 hours, an email was sent out.We met for breakfast this morning. It's beside Coronation Plaza along ... read more

superfinefeline writes: I don't like buffets but make exceptions for Champagne brunches or Chinese Steamboat. The reasons why I don't like buffets is because the quality of the food tends to be lower than that of dishes prepared a la carte and I hate the idea of eating food that has been sitting over a heater for as long as it takes to clear the dish (I don't like over-cooked food). If you're into Champagne Brunches, give the one at Ritz Carlton a try! Many of my friends say that its one of the best in Singapore.... read more

camemberu writes: The kind folks at Sony Ericsson have loaned me a Cyber-shot C905 to play with. This 8 megapixel phone was launched in Singapore late October last year. Here are some trial photos (the ones below). What do you think of them?We took it to Xin Wang Cafe at Siglap. Our first visit there, and it turned out to be fairly pleasant. We went to Holland Drive Food Centre instead. To have the ultra cheap $2 meal.Sorry, the first photo is blurry, it focused on the man at the side instead! I took only 1 photo. haha..These are the two plates we ordered. It is one of the most filling meal you can have for $2.Don't think it is ... read more

ieat writes: With Wahcow, Taukwa and Liverpool"Bu Jian Tian" CharsiewOur Kakis have been raving about Meng Kee Charsiew which Wahcow brought back from KL and were lamenting why we can't get Charsiew which is as good here. The main characteristic of Meng Kee's Charsiew is that it is really fatty and they managed to roast it till the fats just melts in your mouth, so you really get a great flavourful and tender Charsiew. But Singaporeans tend to be more health conscious, so many of the stalls here sell very lean Charsiew.According to Wahcow, the lean charsiew from Meng Kee tasted as ordinary as the Charsiew ... read more

keropok man writes: This is the last bowl of food many of us had for 2008. We were at the Watch Night service in church, and this was served to us for a break at around 10:30 PM.It's a bowl of porridge with lots of toppings. Shredded chicken, fried anchovies, century egg, salted egg and parsley. Thanks to the two sisters, Mrs Ang and Mrs Tan (they are really sisters whose face are so alike) who faithfully prepare this for us year after year. It's delicious! read more
