On a Newstand Near You

Malaysia

Robyn Eckhardt writes:  Caveat: If you're in Asia. This month marks my second year on the masthead of Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia. And appropriately, the next issue is devoted to food.Dave and I collaborated on a few for this one, including a feature story on Chengdu, pieces on great non-pho noodle dishes in Saigon and must-eat northern dishes in Chiang Mai, and little bits on street food in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. If you're eating in Southeast Asia pick up a copy. And I'll probably slap a few pdfs up on EatingAsia when the issue is off the shelves.

Lyrical Lemongrass writes: 1. You’ve got to try Just Heavenly’s Indonesian Spiced Marble Cake and Sugee Fruit Cake, two of the specially packaged Hari Raya offerings this year.  The cakes are moist and flavourful and guaranteed to add inches to the waistline because you just can’t stop at one slice.  The Sugee Fruit Cake is Nigel Skelchy’s family recipe, made of semolina mixed with sugared wintermelon, citrus peel, nuts and golden raisins.   The Spiced Marble cake is quite similar to the Indonesian layer cake (but this has swirls, as opposed to layers, of colour), with hints of cinnamon, nutmegs and mixed spice in a moist butter cake.  These are all packaged ...

PY writes: Some time ago, after running an errand at SMU, I went round the corner to Food For Thought.  I was feeling extremely hungry and wanted some food for comfort at Food For Thought. I wanted to step out of the place the moment I see slogans and quotes plastered all over the otherwise charming cafe.  I like the clean lines and decor of this place but alas ...

myfoodsirens writes: We miss Paris so much that we went to Mirabelle Patisserie bright and early on a Saturday morning just to get a taste of the popular croissants that’s been said to be the best in Singapore. The plump butter croissant ($1.50) is wonderfully crisp and so buttery that it’s a heart attack waiting to happen. But I still prefer the one I had in Paris cuz that was ultra rich and yet so light. Even better is the almond croissant ($2.20) — moist frangipani filling inside and crisp almond sugar topping on the outside. This is something we’ll definitely get again!...

The Hungry Cow writes: It seems like the world is coming to Singapore. Barely weeks ago, we welcomed thousands of participants of the recent Youth Olympic Games to our shores. Quite a few celebrity chefs have set up restaurants at the IRs. And now Fremantle from Perth has also found itself a cousin here. Btw, that reminds me. I have not finished my Perth posts!!!! Ahh!!!!! Breathes.Perth's Fremantle is a harbour town full of maritime heritage, art, a famous market, seaside restaurants and pubs. It has a certain laid back, arty, zesty feel that flows through it. Charming. The Fremantle in Singapore is located at Clarke Quay perhaps to mimic some of that lively seaside riverside feel.Family ...

Interior Belanga 2
Big Boys Oven writes: Belanga Empire The Empire Shopping Gallery located at Subang Jaya was my next stop and I was to meet up with Zarina and her husband for a meal. Belanga was picked as we wanted to try out the Kelantanese cuisine. The place was simple and decorated with sophisticated “belanga” or cooking pots made out of clay. The space was also filled a marching of beautiful white painted chairs and the walls were filled with dark brown wooden paneling and luxurious crafted ‘songket”. They were so noticeable and were truly ...

Till few weeks ago, I mention again and directly Ken agree and we drive all the way to Klang just to hunt for one particular restaurant that served Fried Chicken, Ayem Percik and Yao Yao Ping.
