Malaysia

boo_licious writes: rain, rain, go away.....Sigh, this year seems to be the hardest to do the bazaars - as every day around the time when the bazaars are up and going, the rain seems to continue to pour non-stop. Since I was in town yesterday evening, I braved the traffic jam and made it to Kampung Baru.my fav kuih, the spongy kuih seri ayuI only managed to cover Jalan Raja Alang/Jalan Raja Bot area and not the part next to the LRT Station, due to the timing. Bangkok III - Thaksin’s Beef Noodles

Singapore

hisfoodblog writes: Resided at Hotel Ibis Siam Bangkok along Rajaprarop Road, HFB needed to travel 10 minutes via Soi Rang Nam everyday to get to Victory Monument BTS Skytrain station for transportation. And it was along that stretch of road, opposite King Power Complex, Thailand’s largest duty free shop, that he spotted a dingy coffee shop that was packed full with people.Since curiosity always gets the better of HFB, especially when it comes to food, he proceeded forward and was elated to discover a Beef Noodle Stall. And standing right in front of me was the boss, and none other than Mr Thaksin himself, chopping up the meat and cooking the noodles (Ok, and so ... read more

Singapore

ieat writes: With Food GuruKurobuta Pork Chops $36Oh yes, we are seeing more of the good stuff hitting the coffeeshops! My latest find is this coffeeshop stall which has started selling US Kobe Beef Ribs, US Kurobuta Pork Chops and Wagyu beef done mediterranean style. Now, there are many Western food stalls which are opening up in coffeeshops so I usually have to look out for signs that a particular stall is offering more than just your run-of-the-mill Dory fish and chips, NZ steaks, chicken chops etc.Preparing the grill with beef fatYou know how a lot of times you ... read more

Singapore

The St Regis top sellers - these would be great conversation pieces at parties
camemberu writes: Mooncakes have become like Japanese oseibo, those expensive year-end gifts to relatives, business associates. The high price tag, ingredients and packaging is generally taken to be commensurate with your expression of appreciation. Every year, hotels and bakeries in Singapore vie for a slice of this lucrative pie with innovative creations. It can get mind-boggling, especially when you want to place your dollars on the brands that will impress best.Luxury hotel St Regis held a mooncake-tasting session yesterday at Yan Ting, ... read more

SaturDAY in Singapore

Malaysia

teckiee writes: We woke too late for breakfast and brunch on Saturday. So we just headed out for lunch. We ended up at Shokudo, Japanese Pasta and Pizza in City Link Mall. Jin ordered the Cabonara Shokudo Style (SG12.80). Surprisingly it tasted quite good. I personally prefer authentic Japanese and Italian dishes but this works. The Tako and Bacon (SG12.80) I had wasn't to bad either. I loved the fact that read more

Rainy Days in Saigon

Malaysia

Robyn Eckhardt writes: We'd forgotten how it rains in Saigon. And rains and rains and rains. This time of year, there's no waiting out a downpour. If it catches you unprepared, get prepared - to get very wet. We got caught at the extreme edge of District 3, near the corner of Nguyen Dinh Chieu and Nguyen Thien Thuat streets. The neighborhood is an interesting grid of food stall-lined lanes, and we wandering after a late lunch, scoping out dinner possibilities for later in the week. In retrospect, the steadily graying sky and distant rumbles of thunder interspersed with the occasional jagged slash of lightning should have been signal enough that it was time to catch a cab ... read more

(OK OK, it was also to pre-celebrate yours truly as well.) We all wanted to have a pig out session. The staff at Ricciotti must be commended for allowing a loud boisterous group of us in and arranging 70% of their tables to fit us all in one big L shape formation. Thanks! (Maybe they are more relax after 9:30 pm, where most people have left after their dinner.)Some people were hungry, so 2 pizzas were ... read more

Hokkien Udon Mee

Malaysia

Hokkien Udon Mee
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**As if not enough with noodles served for Mee and My Malaysia event, I've made this noodle dish last weekend. It's Hokkien Mee but using udon instead of thick yellow noodles. I've written about how to make this earlier but using fresh noodles (pan meen). The method is the same just that the ingredients varied. This one has pork slices, fish cake, prawns, choy sum and cabbage. The colour is a tad lighter as I don't have enough dark soy sauce.Other way with udon, Stir Fried Udon With Fish Slices.Technorati Tags: ... read more
