lingzie writes: Nasi Lemak is indeed one of the best loved staple foods in Malaysia. Various versions are available, from the simplest form (those RM1 per packet nasi lemaks) to the more elaborate types where you can pick and choose your dishes to go with the rice. One of the most unique nasi lemaks I’ve come across is Johnny’s Nasi Lemak in Pulau Tikus. Basically, what you get is VERY FRAGRANT rice, 2 prawns & 1 fish, cucumbers and a dollop of fiery hot ’sambal belacan’. That’s it. No curry, no ’sambal ikan bilis’. And it does not come cheap too! A plate like that would set you back RM3.50!  You can opt to skip the fish ...

Mee Kolo
boo_licious writes: curly noodles topped with minced meat and char siu slicesA quickie for today - comfort food for the soul. Was in Taman Megah this week to make a quick stop at the bake shops hence I grabbed breakfast. Decided to check if Kolo Mee stall was open, as Fatboybakes was complaining the other day, the stall has been closed for quite some time. Happy to report the couple is back, with the wife wearing her quirky hats and they were serving the mee kolo. Tasted pretty good and lardy of course but I felt the char siu was a little harder ...

ieat writes: Fried Chicken with Curry NoodleIf there is one combination of flavours that really trigger my umami receptors, it must be the that of fragrant fried chicken soaked in the classic Hainanese style chicken curry or fragrant Laksa Gravy. The contrast between the savoury crispy chicken with the sweet creamy coconut gravy really hits the spot and in terms of flavour, definitely ranks up there with Foie Gras and Matsuzaka Beef. And the great thing is that it is much more affordable and you can eat until you "Peng" (collapse) and still have change from a $10 note.Whenever I eat at 328 Laksa in Katong, I would always hop ...

ladyironchef writes: Ah ma! Ah ma! I want another slice of that. The brownish-orange cake with the smooth cream frosting on top. What is that name again? Yes, carrot cake. Another slice please, before kor-kor comes back from school. Time passed, and ages caught up with us eventually. Ah ma is no longer as young as she was before. And the energy, effort put into making the kuehs, also diminished with every passing day. (more…)

Penang Place
keropok man writes: More goodbye dinner for our brother. (It's as if he's going to starve overseas).Uncle and aunty arranged for us to have Penang food at Penang Place at International Business Park. (near IMM).We always enjoy eating here because the food's nice and it suits our taste. But we usually come here at night, so the photos are dark, blur and grainy. Never mind the photos, the food's to our liking, so that is what matters. This time, most of us started with the soup. The soup's Herbal Duck soup. It's quite delicious. (Need to have self control and not drink too much, ...

SimpleGirl writes: My friend went to Penang for a business one-day trip, haha, I took this opportunity to ask a favour from her......that is to grab me cakes from Jenny's.I still remember when I was working in Penang, my colleague introduced Jenny's to me. I already in love with their cakes. This humble cake shop located at Jalan Cantonment, beside Axis Plaza. A lot of people order birthday cake here, especially cheese cake(very famous). However, for lighter version, you may opt for the smaller, loaf cake, which are equally tasty. If you love chocolate cake, I highly recommend this sweetie - Chocolate Brownie - RM13/=Very moisture and strong chocolate - fulfilling...

The Hungry Cow writes: Even when ValenWine loomed and work was piling up, my tired soul craved steak. That's why I'm thankful for the monthly Steak Lovers' Dinner. A good dose of bovine protein and iron would do good to boost energy levels, no?My dinner option was simple- Natural Prime Rib ($34 for ~250g). No starters, no desserts. Just beef with a glass of iced water. But you suspected I wouldn't settle for 250g yea? And so yes, like MacDonald's favourite option, I opted to upsize it to the Mega Cut (additional $9 to "upgrade" to ~400g)....
