Taman Indah Balakong Pan Meen
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**Last Friday, hubby and I were not working. However, we both woke up early to go for a walk. Aduiii he took me to this private land wayyyyy inside Bandar Sg Long and climb the hill backing Ulu Langat! I was cursing and swearing as I was totally not fit for the steep climb plus it's so embarrassing to have old folks over taking me!!! After huffing and puffing our way up and down, we got down to the foothill around 8am. I was famished but luckily my legs didn't buckled. On our way back, I got him to bring me to Balakong (the pekan side) for pan meen (board noodles). I only ... read more

Fong Keow Bak Kut Teh @ Klang

Malaysia

fong keow bak kut teh
vkeong writes: A few weeks ago I went to Klang in search of the best Klang Bak Kut Teh. I’ve visited and tried most of the Bak Kut Teh restaurant in Klang, and left only a few more to cover. My first stop was Fong Keow Bak Kut Teh restaurant, which is located in Taman Intan (formerly known as Taman Rashna). In Chinese this place is called “Lan Hua Yuan”. In this area alone there are like five to six Bak Kut Teh restaurants. With such stiff competition, each restaurant needs to have their own distinguishable taste and quality to survive in ... read more

Yap Chuan Dry Bak Kut Teh @ Puchong

Malaysia

dry bak kut teh
vkeong writes: Dry Bak Kut Teh has always been on my must-try-list. It is sold in Penang but no need to try also know it won’t be as nice as the ones in Puchong or Klang. Simply because Dry Bak Kut Teh is the creation of a whiz kid from Yap Chuan Restaurant in Puchong. If you remembered, there was a competition organized by a local Chinese daily in search for the top 10 or 100 Bak Kut Teh in Malaysia. This kid, then 14 submitted his own version of Bak Kut Teh and that earned him the Bak Kut Teh King status. Whoa.. great achievement.. and to think that I may don’t even know how to cook instant noodle when ... read more

Located at Restaurant Sun Fatt Kee, just across from Seapark market, business here starts when night falls. They share the premises with a bak kut teh stall and during the day, you can get excellent Teochew porridge here with fried clams, assam fish and etc. Seems they're well known among PJ-ites and is also known as the "Maybank mamak", since they're right in front of the bank.Famous Fried ChickenTables and chairs will be set up around the shop and even outside on the side of the road. Every night it is super ... read more

Restoran LYJ, Sungai Buloh - Poon Choi

Malaysia

poon choi
Lyrical Lemongrass writes: I felt like a kid in a candy store. It was my first time trying poon choi, and I was mesmerised. It is said that a long time ago, poon choi was cooked in large wooden wash basins to serve the multitudes.  Things have evolved since, and in Restoran LYJ, the poon choi is served in a metal tray and kept warm on a portable stove.  The interesting aspect of this dish is that the ingredients are layered, starting with the bottom layer consisting of the braised foods like pork knuckles, fish stomach, abalone, mushroom ... read more

Robyn Eckhardt writes: KLue Vol 109 November 2007 Text: Robyn Eckhardt Photos: David Hagerman Sometimes life takes the most unexpectedly delicious turns, delivering one not to where he might have expected but to where he was surely meant to be. Five years ago wonton mee-loving Muar native Goh We Peng was a student at HELP University. There, he made the acquaintance of fellow Johor-ite Tan Chu San. Goh and Tan's relationship blossomed as many in Malaysia do, over bowls of noodles and plates of rice and talk of food. One day the couple wandered into Section 17's Restoran K Intan, where the specialty was wonton mee, featuring fresh noodles that the old uncle running the shop ... read more

Yap Yin and Bak Kut Teh

Malaysia

teckiee writes: It was the Monday during the Raya holidays when my mom decided that we should have dinner at Yap Yin and Bak Kut Teh. This restaurant was recommended by one of her good friends that have eaten there before. No1231 Jalan Sekolah Seri Kembangan (03-8943 5426) Although my mom’s friend tagged along, we still got lost locating the restaurant. If you are coming from the Bukit Jalil highway direction, go towards Seri Kembangan, pass through all the busy streets and turn left at the traffic light in front of the temple. If you see Public Bank, that means you have missed the traffic ... read more
