PKPS - baked potato skin with chicken mushroom & cheese RM10.90
babe_kl writes: One evening, hubby managed to picked me up early since he was in town to meet his client. On the way home, he said he was hungry. Since we were about to reach Taman Shamelin, I suddenly recalled Shaolin Tiger posted about a western restaurant in the vicinity. As I wasn't sure where is the place nor the name of the place, I used hubby's N95 and the 3G service to check into Shaolin Tiger's page on this place. Finally found the details almost the same time we saw the shop front - Kafe Pat Kin Pat Sun! Thank goodness for technology ;-)The menu is very extensive. You can find western grubs, some local fare and ... read more

An Xin Pork shop

Malaysia

teckiee writes: There's a new pork shop near where I live. (Ok, maybe not really that new... this post is one of my backlog) An Xin Pork Shop took over the corner shop where the old Taman Megah's Secret Recipe used to be. If you know where is Bake with Yen or Chang Thung, you will surely come across this shop as they are all at the same row.At last. A shop only for POK! They sell pork leg, pork hand, the lean meat, the fatty three layer meat, the skin, the ears, ....the internals. But, this caught my eye.A little disappointed because the skin wasn't ... read more

Have fun with the recipe =)Preparing the Sponge- 385g bread flour- 4g instant active dry yeast- 231ml cold water1. To prepare the sponge, mix flour, yeast and water for 3 minutes on slow speed. The sponge should be cool, feels dry and slightly firm.2. Ferment the sponge by placing in an air-tight container for 3 to 4 hours. Baking 101

Cream Cheese Marbled Brownies
Lyrical Lemongrass writes: My two idols, Fatboybakes and Boolicious were espousing the virtues of baking.  I listened keenly, wanting so much a little bit of this happiness which was theirs.  They made baking seem…..almost….magical. So with a grocery list in hand, I went to Bangsar Village to get the ingredients for Cream Cheese Marbled Brownies, a recipe which Fatboybakes had referred to as the easiest recipe ever posted on his blog.  It was like God saying how easy it was for Him to create the world in 7 days. Fatboybakes had indicated that he had taken only 10 minutes to blitz the ingredients together.  I figured that since I wasn’t an experience baker, I’d ... read more

boo_licious writes: On Saturday, I managed to catch this amazing movie called The Waitress. Perfect for foodies, it has Jenna, the waitress making these delicious pies, which she names based on her situations and moods. They have weird combinations, but tastes utterly great, based on all the ooh and aahs from her fans in the diner she works at. A Sundance Festival 2007 pick, this movie became a hit in the USA. It is also a bit poignant as the screenwriter and director, Adrienne Shelley was murdered just before the movie's release.I can't believe the election results pie I got into a pie mood, and decided to ... read more

The Goat, The Bad and The Ugly

Lyrical Lemongrass writes: 1.  Beep.  Beep.  “Please call home when u are free.”  When dad sends this text message to my mobilephone, his request could range from “Your mum is in the hospital, so if you are free, please visit” to “Can you buy us plane tickets to London” to “Are you coming over for dinner this weekend?”.  The urgency may differ for each request, but his text message is always the same.  I think he has it saved on his mobilephone. Fearing the worst, I called. Me:  What’s up, dad? Dad:  Have you heard of Boer goat meat? (Note:  This conversation takes place in the middle of my rush period when I’m desperately trying to finalise a report.) Me:  Huh?? Dad:  You haven’t been reading the ... read more

YK - durian tarts
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**Last weekend I had to FFK the JFKA session cos we decided to drive up the hill for some, well I won't say it's relaxing, perhaps... fun? Hubby and I were happy cos boiboi said he was super duper happy. I'm sure he does but seriously it's not that fun anymore, for me at least, going round and round on children rides... quite harrowing when you have a crazy little terrorist that spin the bloody teacup in detrimental speed!!! We were glad to see him smiling ear-to-ear bumping around in the children bumper car ride. He did that 3 rounds before we dragged him away for dinner (more on that later). Being the kiasu parent, we ... read more

Egg-Free Chocolate Cupcakes
babe_kl writes: Remember my hot date with Paprika? The one I received a hot-off the oven, yummilicious chocolate cupcake from her??? Anyway, I did get the 500 Cupcakes & Muffins not long after and yes I've tried that recipe earlier but failed tremendously. I followed the recipe and my cupcakes came out tasting like cocoa powder instead of fudgey and goey. I've over baked them as I followed the recipe to the T!I got round to make them again and this time I only baked them for about 12 mins. They came out perfectly chocolatey, fudgey and moist! No doubt they don't contain eggs or sugar but don't think of them as healthy alternative as the amount of ... read more

Lyrical Lemongrass writes: 1. “Hi.  Would you like to go out with us?” Exactly a year ago, a couple of months after A Whiff of Lemongrass came into existence, I ventured out of my comfort zone and agreed to do the unthinkable - meeting strangers whose acquaintance I had made online.  It meant several things to me, but most importantly, revealing my real identity and feeling vulnerable under the scrutiny of several pairs of eyes belonging to seasoned bloggers was the biggest consideration.  Seasoned as in marinated in hot chili padi with lots of belacan and petai pods to boot!  There was Rasa Malaysia (photographer extraordinaire), WMW (human tripod extraordinaire), Boolicious (preeminent food blogger ... read more
