Review: Shin Kee Beef Noodles Specialist

Malaysia

Shin Kee - beef noodles
babe_kl writes: Whilst I was busy at my client's some months back, I took the opportunity to get down to Chinatown (Petaling Street) area to soak up the atmosphere during lunch or after office hours. I like to work in this part of the city as the food choices are endless! Ranging from chicken rice, wantan noodles, chee cheung fun, yong tau foo, claypot loh shue fun and siew yuk noodles, exotic food, fabulous curry laksa, and not forgetting the happy happy pastries for dessert or snack.Other than Soong Kee, I also like the beef noodles at Shin Kee Beef Noodles Specialist at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock opposite ... read more

Soong Kee Beef Noodles
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**Soong Kee at the intersection of Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin (Silang) and Jalan Tun HS Lee needs no introduction at all as it has more than 60 years of history behind it walls. Well not at the current walls but at least at the cooking section. Previously (at least more than 6 years ago), they do not have a proper front for patrons to sit. We always ended sitting along the corridor of the building behind it. Thank goodness they have renovated the shop front and it's so pleasant so dine here these days. The only problem coming here is there is hardly any parking around.Anyway, this is one of our fave place to drop ... read more

Nasi Lemak Jalan Alor-Changkat Bukit Bintang Junction
babe_kl writes: I'm pretty sure many of the KLites working around Kuala Lumpur most popular hawker haven, Jalan Alor, would know or have tasted this nasi lemak located at the junction of Jalan Alor and Changkat Bukit Bintang (opposite KL Baptist Church). I know of a fan, Yozora Nite Sky, who must have her fix at least once a week! Haha... Opens in the morning and it's a norm to see long queue like this... Going up close, you'll be amazed with the array of lauk (dishes) to go with your nasi lemak. Ranging sotong, fried chicken, curry chicken, chicken/beef rendang, kerang (cockles), bergedil, terung (eggplant), paru ... read more

Review: Soo Kee Restaurant

Malaysia

Soo Kee - Sang Har Meen
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**Soo Kee Restaurant is one of the older institution in Kuala Lumpur. It's so famous in its hey days for beef noodles (ngau yuk hor) and fresh water prawns noodles (sang har meen) that Soo Kee is mentioned in many foreign travel guide books. Hence it's not surprising to find westerners, Koreans or Japanese looking for this place these days. Our visits however have dwindled down over the years as we felt they're not as good as before. Anyhow, we decided to drop by again since we have no idea what to eat one evening. We ordered the signature fresh prawn noodle (RM15/pax for medium sized prawn) which we find it's drier than the eggy ... read more

Steamboat Party

Malaysia

Steamboat Mosaic
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**I had a steamboat (also known as Chinese fondue) party recently... hmmm in actual fact I'm pretty reluctant to post this up but never mind lah I suddenly feel very generous to divulge our family secret recipe to a great steamboat stock! With our simple and easy recipe (well if you think it's a recipe at all hahaha) you can forget about toiling over in the kitchen preparing a large pot of stock of the usual chicken carcass or meat bones!!! Can you imagine all the cleaning, blanching, more cleaning before boiling the bones for hours... on top of the washing, cleaning and cutting of steamboat ingredients, you get the drift??? Urghhh... Fret not, so ... read more

Red Ginger, North Point Mid Valley

Malaysia

teckiee writes: I knew I had to come for this food tasting session when I saw the subject as "Red Ginger". I had a very good experience with the service and my Kam Heong bee hoon at Damansara Heights and want to taste the others Red Ginger have to offer. The reminder of my post will be done in Bahasa Malaysia. Kasturi Pomelo Special. Minuman ... read more

Red Ginger

Malaysia

teckiee writes: After receiving a SMS from Jason mentioning about a dinner organized by Tim at Red Ginger, I knew that I have to dig these pictures and get them posted. If I remembered correctly, I first heard about Red Ginger from Nigel during the flogger meet at Sandias. I was looking for a place to eat near by JHP (tried the rum balls already! nyahahaha! power stuff!) and Nigel recommended Red Ginger. Red Ginger pamelo salad, sweet pamelo pulps sprinkled with some crushed groundnuts with fresh basil. Belacan fried rice. I didn't ... read more
