breakfast

boo_licious writes: Kaya with Bamboo Charcoal ToastLast weekend, it was retail therapy at the mall - kinda didn't help that the stores are all on sale. Anyway, I reckon I'm doing my part in boosting the economy. Who knows but I probably had a hand in the record breaking growth rate, they recently announced. I stumbled on this place, when we did a walkaround the lower ground level of The Gardens. Lots of new places now opened - Nyonya Colours, Yo! Sushi, Big Apple Donuts & Coffee, Shihlin Taiwan Snacks, I Love Yoo!, Jonker Street Desserts, Rak Thai and etc.Peanut butter sesame toastWe were fascinated with the ... read more

The George and Dragon
Lyrical Lemongrass writes: The dashing hero (Coz heros are usually blithe and dashing) Heard the princess shapely (Coz princesses are normally shapely and blushing) Her screams were piercing (And how can they not be piercing and shrill?) The dragon looked menacing (Far from the dragon in Shrek if you will) St George our mighty hero Saves the lady, his princess And pubs the world over Cheer the hero’s boldness And that’s how The George And Dragon appeared To celebrate drunkenness Inebriation revered. And what of our hero and his princess you ask? A man’s appetite is wanton So she hummed and ... read more

Never, Ever Live Next to a Bakery

Malaysia

Sansrival_2
Robyn Eckhardt writes: That nugget of wisdom popped into my head a couple of weeks ago in Butuan City, as I sat patting my mid-section after all but licking the plate on which had sat, just a minute ago, a slice of sans rival. Granted, it had been a week of non-stop eating (details to come). But it was really the sans rival that led me to the edge of the cliff and pushed me over. Our host, you see, lives next to his sister Margie's bakery. Nearly every meal closed with a parade, literally from the bakery's door to his, of wickedly delicious cakes, cookies, pastries. Sometimes a new batch would appear on the table just ... read more

Log 'n Roll
babe_kl writes: After our share-share dinner, we bumped into my ex-colleague at one of those kiosks at LG, Midvalley Megamall. I was surprised to see him busy selling his wares there hahaha... but it's a good thing! I was quite happy to see the wares he's peddling... one of my fave food! It's chee cheung fun (rice noodles) that came in pre-packaged form. Just need to steam or microwave them. How convenient!Apparently all these while his family have been the producer and supplier of chee cheung fun. Day 5 : Last minute shopping

Malaysia

teckiee writes: We have everything all planned out for the last day. Eat everything we have been eyeing for, eat everything that we like, and do our last minute shopping. We head to the market again hoping for that particular packed noodles stall to be open and with less people. We were in luck to find three empty seats for us to squat. I had the rounded noodles with minced pork balls and bambo shoots soup. (10,000 Dong) The soup was just so so but I like the bambos shoots itself. Some might not like the bamboo shoot smell as it might smell too pungent. I'm used to it because I love them in my ... read more

Day 4 : Perfume Pagoda

Malaysia

teckiee writes: This was sold just out front of out guest house. Crowded on Day 2. Crowded on Day 3. I eat on Day 4. Red rice (2,000 Dong)! That dark seed is from a red fruit that produce to dye for this rice. I have no idea what fruit is used to get the red color. The rice smelt a little different, but different good. Tasted good with the salty chicken floss. After the quick breakfast, we headed hours out of Hanoi to the jetty that will get us to the Perfume Pagoda. I sat in front of the row boat. It was an hour boat ride to reach the foot hill ... read more

Nigella’s American Breakfast Pancakes

Malaysia

Pancakes, Nigella's recipe
babe_kl writes: I've made this pancake for my boiboi's breakie during my detox period. I decided to try this recipe from Nigella Lawson's How To Be A Domestic Goddess cos it looked super easy. Just blitz all ingredients in a blender!!! She mentioned that this recipe will yield thick and spongy pancakes BUT it's totally different when I made mine... sigh... could it be the ingredients again? Most likely huh since I've used low-fat milk instead of full cream milk. The pancake is thin and its not exactly fluffy. Tastewise, it's actually quite all right. I've used Jamie Oliver's recipe (ehhh I realised I didn't blog about it, lemme find the pic first) before this which turned out perfectly, errr just ... read more
