vkeong writes: Today I had a spike in my blog’s traffic, almost 5 times the usual number of visitors. Considering it’s Sunday and it is also the day of the week I receive the least visitors, it was weird. So I checked the traffic referrers and surprisingly, it was TheStar online! They put up an article I wrote some time ago regarding Long Beach Cafe and the chicken chop I had. Woo hoo I am so excited, get the article here. This is the full excerpt of the article: Popular with tourists Compiled by SANGEETHA NAIR Long Beach Cafe in Penang serves excellent chicken chop, writes blogger vkeong from ... read more

vkeong writes: Two weeks ago I posted about a famous curry mee in Chulia Street, this time it’s about the mother and son wantan mee stall selling beside it. It is named mother and son simply because a mother and her son are operating it. The mother would boil the noodles while the son prepares the ingredients and serve customers. I think she looks kinda cool in this photo lol. Left one is regular, right one is large portion.. total is RM5.30. Business is brisk and you can see the big pile of wantan noodle ready to be cooked, so you could estimate the ... read more

vkeong writes: For good ice kacang in Bukit Mertajam, most will head to a famous stall in Taman Jaya (directly opposite BM Country Club) We, BM lang refer it as 榕树下 ice kacang because the food court is built under a big tree. It is built as simplest as possible - place some tables and chairs under a big canvas shelter and walla, a place to eat! A bowl is only RM2 and comes with generous amount of “toppings” Why the double quote? Because all toppings are hidden beneath the ice! This is very different from ice kacang in Penang island, where the toppings are placed on top of the finely shredded ... read more

vkeong writes: Anyone likes almond tea? Heng jin teh? Heng jin is almond in Hokkien, and people usually eat it with yiu char koay. According to online and newspaper resources, there are 2 stalls in Penang that are famous for this drink. The owners are brothers who sell tong sui in push-stalls. The one I went to was at Kimberly Street. I love almond cookies so I thought almond tea should be as nice. Turns out that almond tea tastes very awful (for me) because of its very strong medicine smell, like cough mixture. I only managed a few spoonful, then I gave up. For some, it even smells like ... read more

vkeong writes: A buddy of mine recently recommended me to try a famous curry mee in Chulia Street (Lebuh Chulia) Being born and raised in the mainland side of Penang - Bukit Mertajam town, I always have difficulties navigating in Georgetown. The many number of streets and lanes, each with their very own unique names are confusing for me. It took a while for me to find this curry mee stall, I even had to ask a couple of people for directions. Any BM-kia here faces the same problem like me? The curry mee is good with generous portions of cockles and cuttlefish. There’s also a big yummy fish ball, which I think ... read more

vkeong writes: Kolo Mee is another famous hawker food in Sarawak. It is one of the most common food found in Kuching, you can see it being sold at every corner of the city. The nicest Kolo Mee I had so far was in Chong Choon Cafe again, in which I had nice Sarawak Laksa too. Kolo Mee noodle looks like thinner maggi noodle but more springy. The main ingredients are usually char siew, minced pork, some vegetable and topped with spring onions. Funny thing I noticed is that they all hide the vegetable under the noodle lol. At Chong Choon Cafe, a bowl of ... read more

US Pizza is located one street away from Gembira Parade, the almost deserted shopping complex along Green Lane. Look for the shophouses on the right at the entrance, it is the corner shop. I didn’t manage to find the restaurant at first so I am giving you the clearest direction possible Mention pizza, and most likely Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Shakey’s will come to mind. It ... read more

vkeong writes: Siang Leng forwarded me an email yesterday about one of the best char koay teow in Penang - Ah Leng Char Koay Teow. The email contents looked very familiar, because it was copied from makankings‘ blog. Apparently, Lilian blogged about it not long ago too. Based on the directions given by Ah Quah, we finally found Ah Leng. He was not too hard to find after all, the only problem I encountered was to find a place to park my car. Ah Leng is only assisted by his daughter (I assume) and business was brisk. All tables in the coffee shop had ordered his char koay ... read more
