Shah Alam Stadium Sunday Morning Market

Malaysia

boo_licious writes: Petai aka stink beansLast Sunday, we finally managed to make it down to the Shah Alam stadium's morning market. I have been dying to go look at the place for quite some time but due to work commitments, it has been placed in the back burner.Beautiful purple brinjals or auberginesThe place is pretty happening with a Pasar Tani (a kind of farmers market) with lots of local produce, food stalls and stalls selling second hand items. It is advisable to come early as it can get packed in the later part of the morning. Luckily, we reached here nice and early.Kundang... read more

boo_licious writes: The famous char kuey teowThere has been a lot of write up with regards to this famous Char Kuey Teow. A recent one at the NST prompted me to go search for it and I discovered all the stalls, which were at Restoran Subang Ria has shifted to Restoran Jamal Mohamed, the corner shop right at the other end. Rumours are flitting the reason why they moved is because the owner wanted to open his own stores. I guess you can't fool the locals as this place is now packed while the other restaurant is basically "catching flies".Nasi Lemak stallBeing a first timer, I was skeptical ... read more

Food Republic @ The Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur

boo_licious writes: Before I continue today's post, do vote for the Floggers videos on this LINK - Apple Crumble Team and Fantastic Four. More details are in the previous blog entry. Thanks to those who have voted. The videos should be up for a week so get going with your votes and watching the videos. With the long break, we did some exploring at Pavilion last week. Just opened last Wednesday, Food Republic is a food court which hails from Singapore. On the day it opened, there was quite a commotion at one of the stalls which saw a three foot snake drop by. Not sure how the snake ended up there (it seems it dropped from the signages ... read more

boo_licious writes: I was first introduced to this place by Max Chin from Max Kitchen and Wines. Great recommendation as this small coffeeshop at the side of the busy Old Klang Road serves excellent char kuey teow. According to him, the stall is run by three brothers who fry their noodles only on a two plate basis hence maintaining the "wok hei". This stall was also one of the recommended in Sunday Metro's best char kuey teow search. You can order the normal char kuey teow with rice noodles but a specialty is this version - mixed with mee. Fried with lots of lard, there's scrambled eggs, bean sprouts, cockles, char siu slices and fishball pieces, the noodles are ... read more

Penang……more food.

Malaysia

Fezzaboy writes: Lorong Selamat – Char Kuey Teow and Ice Kacang. Now, back to Penang. On our second day, we decided to head to Lorong Selamat for some hawker food. In Penang, the usual suspects are Char Kuey Teow, Cendol and Ice Kacang. This Char Kuey Teow is indeed one of a kind. Why? The lady who does the frying wears industrial goggles to protect her eyes from the “emissions”. Cool.... We aren’t talking read more

boo_licious writes: This particular no name shop is popular among Petaling Jaya residents especially those who patron the wet market across the road from it. During daylight hours, what's famous is the Char Kuey Teow stall manned by a couple. The restaurant also houses a chee cheong fun and noodles stall. What I like about this particular char kuey teow is it's not too oily and dry. I personally hate my noodles to be wet and dripping with oil. Usually, I order my plate of kuey teow with raw cockles on top. Heap the piping hot noodles on top of the cockles or be like me, bury them deep within the brown charred folds of the ... read more

boo_licious writes: Usually whenever you mention vegetarian food, people will say "no way as I love my meat too much". I used to be one of those "anti-vegetarians" but ever since I took the plunge to try the food, I have been pleasantly surprised with the selections and most importantly, it tastes good. This particular place practises Hare Krishna principles - no garlic or onions to flavour their food but by some miracle, the food tastes great. We have eaten here twice - once for lunch and another time for dinner. For lunch, they have their sets. There's the Nava Thali Set with rice and nine small ... read more

Penang Food Diary: Part 3

Malaysia

rokh writes: Life has been really busy and my kitchen had been feeling pretty lonely lately, but my tummy is still filled contently. This would be my final part of Penang food endeavour, which I had held off for far too long. I hope I would be at least posting once a week from now on unlike my recent absence, for my job load is high and my weekends are spent relaxing or having fun. But I have no intentions to abandon this blog of mine, which had just celebrated its first birthday! Oh no, where is the cake? It will come, I have no doubt but when is the question. It deserves a cake (or maybe a cupcake) and ... read more
