Lyrical Lemongrass writes: I love mid-week holidays!  It’s such a wonderful feeling to be able to wake up late, watch a couple of movies on TV, have a late brunch and enjoy an afternoon siesta. Boo, Pea and I took the opportunity to meet up this evening for dinner, and despite eating crabs, we were still feeling a little peckish. Of course, our diligent reading of other food blogs paid off, and we recalled SC’s post on a desserts place in the vicinity.  Everyone piled into the 4-wheel drive (which was an excellent idea as some stretches were flooded and resembled the muddy murky waters of the Klang river) and made our way to Dessert’s ... read more

Canton-I interior Canton-I is supposedly owned by the highly popular Dragon-I and opened in December 2007. A different menu is served here - noodles, rice, congee, dim sum items (fried, pan fried and steamed) and desserts. Similar to Dragon-I outlets, part of the frontage of the restaurant is the open kitchen. Here at Canton-I, you get to see the barbequed meats and the chefs cooking noodles. A small take away area for pastries is tucked at ... read more

boo_licious writes: Chopsticks with pasta?Regular readers of my blog should know I am a great fan of the Rakuzen group of restaurants and Japanese food. Hence, when I heard about their latest venture at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, I knew it would be where I'll be dining on my day off. Instead of sushi, this time round, the place serves pasta, hence the name Pasta Zanmai.Grind your own black sesame seedRight opposite Sun Moulin Bakery and next to Carl's Jr on the Promenade side, which connects the old and new wings together, it can be hard to spot this place as it is hidden behind Shojikiya's Japanese foodstuff. The ... read more

Lyrical Lemongrass writes: It is ironic that after over a month-long buildup to Christmas, everything’s put away in boxes in anticipation of the next major festival here. Lucky bamboo plants are already up for sale, and gaily coloured boxes of yee sang (or at least what tries to pass off as yee sang in its colourful artificial glory) are displayed prominently in supermarkets. Hello! Chinese New Year is more than a month away. Give me back my Christmas! I’m not done yet. Before I get caught up with the ... read more

Hairy Crabs at King Crab, PJ

Malaysia

Tai lake hairy crab
Lyrical Lemongrass writes: When it rains, it pours, so the saying goes. Days after my last crab feast, I was going to eat crabs again. Cholestrol cholestrol cholestrol, my mind repeated those words. A battle between Jekyll and Hyde ensued, but the other side won easily. My eyes glistened and my heart skipped a beat as I saw the sumptuous hairy crabs laid out before us. We soon found out that not all hairy crabs were created equal. It is important to know the source of the crabs, and we ... read more

boo_licious writes: Hairy Crab from Tai Woo LakeMeet Hairy! I met him for the first time last Friday. A jet setter, he flies in from China every week. A real popular dude, he gets swamped with fans especially during the months from October to January. I met two cousins that day - one from Tai Woo Lake (RM78++ per crab) and the other from the famous Yang Cheng Lake (RM88++ per crab). Hairy Crab from Yang Cheng LakeThe fella from Yang Cheng Lake even came with a tag with a number on it. Seems if you want to check if it originates from that lake, you can ... read more

Lyrical Lemongrass writes: 1.The mechanism was already in place. Change. Inevitable change. It had become clear to me that I was moving into a different phase of my life.2.She leaves in a week. I tease her that she will miss us, but I know that it is only to mask my impending feeling of loneliness. We used to joke that we were like nomads - moving from friend to friend; never quite settled down. I suppose we'll all survive in our new environments. Even if it's 3,000km away. Despite that, I'll probably be able to hear her cackle.3.Tonight, the first of many "makan" sessions marks her ... read more

Restaurant Sai Gong

Malaysia

teckiee writes: One of my colleagues brought me here to celebrate his 10th anniversary working in the company. It's not some where near work, so we all drove to Restaurant Sai Gong in 63 Jalan 1/62D, Medan Putra Business Center in Bandar Menjelara Kepong after work. It didn't take me long to locate the place because the restaurant is in the same area where The Bird is. (Bookings can be made by calling 016-6000655)The dishes I try were just awesome so I just had to bring my family here to try. I keep ranting how great the food is until my sis had to shut me up LOL! ... read more

Considering it’s Sunday and it is also the day of the week I receive the least visitors, it was weird. So I checked the traffic referrers and surprisingly, it was TheStar online!
