While I was doing some shopping with my cousin during Deepavali week, we were coming up the escalator hoping to get some tickets for a movie. Guess it wasn’t meant to be when we saw Carl’s Jr., fully opened. Without read more

babe_kl writes: In replying to Teckiee's question in my Deepavali greetings post if I was away making murukku... hahaha of course not lah! I got a tin of that from a friend of mine. Well instead of murukku, I made these... Wahseh... colourful or not? Before these babies were coated with milled sugar, the strong colour looked kinda scary! I made a trial batch of these earlier but I've used very very little colouring and my test bunnies told me they were too light. Hmmm and I thought they looked kinda nice in pastel shades, just that they don't show much after the sugar coating.... read more

boo_licious writes: Happy Deepavali! Hope you have a great time celebrating the festival of light and enjoy the break. This year I didn't manage to make it to the Brickfields bazaars to get my supply of milk cake and rasmalai, my favourites. However, I did manage to snap quick pictures of what is there to offer at Lebuh Ampang. Although the selection is smaller compared to Brickfields, there were interesting items like these milk candies dyed to resemble the Indian flag colours - orange, green and white. Some eternal favourites were also available like the Ladoos encrusted with bits of chickpea and made from gram flour (grinded chickpeas). Another must have is the technicolour orange Jelebis. These ... read more

vkeong writes: Little India in Penang is the place to look for good Indian food. Once you step into Little India you will first be greeted by the smell of burning incense sticks, the sights of colorful clothes and the hearing of loud Indian music. Sri Ananda Bahwan was the place I went for the taste of Little India. Located at the intersection of King Street (Lebuh King) and Penang Street (Lebuh Penang) Sri Ananda Bahwan offers northern and southern India cuisine, one of their many specialties is banana leaf rice. Actually I got to know this restaurant from Deva, who’s currently ... read more

Lyrical Lemongrass writes: I love Indian sweets. In my university days, my father would drive all the way to Jai Hind in Masjid India to buy my favourite Indian sweetmeat, pal kova (no relation to pavlova), to make up for chucking me in a hostel run by a tyrant Master for four years. I'd nibble on the precious confection slowly, relishing its milky goodness. Indian sweetmeats are a great way to end a meal, as the sweetness of the dessert acts as a foil for a spicy Indian meal. Then again, the confections aren't exactly desserts as they can be eaten at any time and anywhere.... read more
