Get Juiced at the BTS

Malaysia

Soontra_1
Robyn Eckhardt writes: On our last night in Bangkok back in February we rushed from an excellent dinner at an unlikely spot in the Nang Leong neighborhood (more on that later) to the Chitlom BTS (sky train) station so that we could get to iberry before it closed. Alas, we arrived to find that that particular iberry shop (on Thanon Sukhumvit next to the Sogo/Grand Hyatt) is no more. Talk about disappointment! We were leaving Bangkok early the next morning, so there would be no Horlick's or Thai iced tea ice cream for us that trip. We did, however, fit in plenty of another particular-to-Bangkok taste sensation while we were in town: Soontra fruit juices, sold from ... read more

Mee Goreng Jalil @ Sungai Ara

Malaysia

mee goreng sungai ara
vkeong writes: This is what I am craving for here at Seri Kembangan, a good plate of mee goreng. In Penang, you can find mee goreng stalls almost anywhere whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I have never seen any stall so far over here, sigh. Mee goreng is almost non-existent here! Actually I have blogged about mee Jalil before but it looked really bad because it was take away. Now that the presentation is so much nicer, I am sure you will be more tempted to try it. Mr. Jalil has been selling his signature noodles in Sungai Ara (which is also the place ... read more

boo_licious writes: Reunion appetizerBusy! Busy! Busy! Sorry but the blog has been sadly ignored these few days...Nevertheless the eating still continues though. My uncle and his family are down from Hong Kong and China these few days for Ching Ming. We did the deed yesterday - easy and painless as there were no crowds of people jostling for space in the cemetery. Am amazed at how clean the Hokkien cemetery looks now. Almost could not recognise it.Chicken herbal soupWe had this last night, since we didn't want to travel too far. My first time trying out the food from Reunion's menu. I love the mirrors, sheer curtains ... read more

Jaya Palace Restaurant

Malaysia

teckiee writes: I no longer have to travel down to Imbi for Imbi Palace because they have (not so) recently open a new branch in Asia Jaya area! Wee!It was Chinese New Year, and also my Dad's birthday when I brought them here for dinner. Dad always says that he is up for anything, but I know he prefers Chinese compared to other cuisines. Started off with the appetizer, ikan bilis (anchovies), long beans, and sweet potatoes, all together. Sweet and spicy. Pan fried vegetables with scallops. I like the way they have prepared the vegetables, the celery, Enoki mushrooms and Macadamia nuts were fried until ... read more

Haji Samuri Kajang Satay

Malaysia

Haji Samuri Kajang Satay
vkeong writes: This was my dinner tonight - Haji Samuri’s famous Kajang Satay. It’s surprisingly fast and cheap to reach Kajang town from Seri Kembangan, only 20 minutes and RM1 toll. The real problem starts when you’re in Kajang town itself. It’s a small town but there’s a lot of cars. So, getting around would take quite a while even for a short distance. Read more if satays interest you.. We ordered 10 chicken satays, 10 fish satays and 5 beef tripes satay. Beef tripes is at 9 o’clock, chicken at 6 while fish at 12.... read more

Robyn Eckhardt writes: What fun is getting from point A to location B if it's done on an empty stomach? No fun at all, say Malaysians, who view a road trip as an opportunity, or an excuse, or both, to engage in four-wheeled sport eating. According to Malaysian logic driving two hours from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh just to eat lunch might make sense ... but it makes more sense to add an extra hour to the journey, divert off the north-south expressway onto the old two-lane trunk road, and stop along the way for a meal-sized snack. We're not quite that hard-core - yet - but we are willing to drive for ... read more

Bridesmaid in Need

Malaysia

rokh writes: I am just dropping a note here to say that I am alive and well. Life has been real busy, as I said that I was involved in my sister’s wedding tea ceremony and dinner. After all the stress and sleepless nights, I would say it went really well. Anyway, time for me to catch up on my work, I leave you here with one of my favourite shot of the day: read more

Harm Choy (pickled mustard cabbage)
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**I was lamenting to hubby one day that it must have been moons since I last drank Harm Choy Tong (Pickled Mustard Cabbage Soup in Cantonese) as my mom had stopped cooking that at home for years. According to one sinseh, this pickled mustard cabbage is bad for her knees. Sighhh...One day, we were eating at Fock Kee. Hubby asked me how come I didn't order Harm Choy Tong hahaha... I said I can make them myself. Moreover, Fock Kee serves complimentary soups for dinner :p. So the next day, I went to the market to grab some harm choy, tomatoes, soft tofu and some lean meat. I'm gonna use the guan tong (quick boil ... read more

boo_licious writes: Stuffed Tofu PuffsI'm on the roll, this week with my second post in two days. Hopefully I can keep this up! Happy April Fool's day everyone. Do get up to loads of michief and play funny tricks on your fellow colleagues or friends. Seemed appropriate, I should post this today - the day of WIP's official opening. Sadly, I doubt I will be attending since I'm busy with training at the mo. Nevertheless, I did get a preview of the food (finally!), last week when we dropped by for dinner.Beef Kuey TeowAs everyone knows, the people behind WIP are Fred and Michelle, the same ones who own Souled ... read more

Mua Chee @ Northam Beach Cafe

Malaysia

mua chee
vkeong writes: Northam Beach Cafe is a nicer type of hawker center in Penang along Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah. It is located right next to a beach hence the name. Northam Beach Cafe utilizes the open air concept so you could enjoy the wind coming from the sea. And because of the nice location, decoration and ample free parking space it is popular with the locals and tourists alike. The food, however is pretty much the same with the other hawker centers. But the mua chee here is quite special so it deserves a mention. Mua chee is my favorite snack when I was small. Who wouldn’t love that chewy ... read more
