boo_licious writes: just opened but packed with peopleNotice how we seem to follow Singapore in terms of food trends. Not sure why we are always the follower versus the leader. One fine example is the newly opened Pasta de Gohan, a spin off from Pasta de Waraku from Singapore. A well established chain of restaurants in Singapore, this outlet at Sunway Pyramid, just opened their doors on 9 May, 2008.take your pick from the row of plastic plates of pastaFor their opening ceremony, they advertised a special promotion for the 9 May, 2008, which involves a 100% rebate in terms of ... read more

sister's char koay teow
vkeong writes: So, I went and tried Sister’s Char Koay Teow in McAlister Road before I left Penang. It it said to be one of the best char koay teow in Penang, with a notorious reputation of being overpriced and arrogant. I even heard that you would be charged for not ordering a drink in the coffee shop. I had to see it for myself to confirm this. The coffee shop was pretty empty when I went there. Only a few tables were seated and it didn’t seem as busy as I expected, since it’s supposed to be famous and all. To ... read more

boo_licious writes: hubba bubba - the shrimp has now landed in MalaysiaAlthough this place just opened a few weeks ago, the blogosphere seems flooded with reviews already. I'm kinda not surprised as it was super packed on Saturday, when we dined there. We scored a pretty good seat inside since we were early but I did spy loads of people dining outside on the deck.Gosh...it is huge!Located just above The Gourmet House at the Curve, the restaurant occupies two floors, with a souvenir shop at the side. Loads of Forrest Gump memorabilia is displayed on the walls, tables and everywhere else - we sat just at ... read more

seafood meal
vkeong writes: You won’t believe where I went to celebrate my last Valentine’s day. It wasn’t at any fancy Western restaurant nor a romantic candle light dinner. Partly because most of the restaurants in Penang were already fully booked a few days ahead. So, we decided to have a seafood feast at Bali Hai Seafood Market - a seafood restaurant along Gurney Drive. We thought that the money would be better spent on seafood than lamb or steaks. And boy, did we make a helluva good decision! Before the showing the foods I ate, let me give you a tour of the seafoods Bali Hai has to offer.... read more

WFK - Duck and harm choy soup
babe_kl writes: On the day I posted up the Harm Choy Tong (Pickled Mustard Cabbage Soup), I was secretly hoping for a bowl to warm me up on that super cold afternoon (it was raining heavily that day). Sighhh but have to wait for weekend before I could cook another pot. Fate would have it when we decided to drop by Restaurant Wong Fook Kee at Tengkat Tong Shin. Whilst ordering, they ask if we wanted any soup, hubby asked what kinda soup. When the words "harm choy ngarp" (pickled mustard cabagge and duck soup) came up, hubby quickly said yes... hahaha he's a soup lover. Later I confessed to him that I was hoping for some that afternoon and he ... read more

Boiled watermelon skin drink
babe_kl writes: Did you know that you can boil the skin of watermelon to produce a type of drink that will soothe your body system? Heh yes... you heard it right? It's watermelon skin!!!Before cutting up a watermelon (red preferabily as it's sweeter, I've tried with yellow and it doesn't taste as fragrant and sweet) wash and scrub the skin clean of any dirt and grubs. Cut it up and reserve the red meat portion to be eaten as usual. It's ok to leave the white part together with the skin. Cut them into small pieces and place in a ... read more

Review: Kafe Pat Kin Pat Sun

Malaysia

PKPS - baked potato skin with chicken mushroom & cheese RM10.90
babe_kl writes: One evening, hubby managed to picked me up early since he was in town to meet his client. On the way home, he said he was hungry. Since we were about to reach Taman Shamelin, I suddenly recalled Shaolin Tiger posted about a western restaurant in the vicinity. As I wasn't sure where is the place nor the name of the place, I used hubby's N95 and the 3G service to check into Shaolin Tiger's page on this place. Finally found the details almost the same time we saw the shop front - Kafe Pat Kin Pat Sun! Thank goodness for technology ;-)The menu is very extensive. You can find western grubs, some local fare and ... read more

Turning on my computer at home is like being in a new relationship.  “Will I get lucky tonight?” sums it all up.  And right now, it looks like my hymen is going to stay intact for a while longer. The recent elections has taught us one thing - more power to the people.   With flexed muscles, bulging biceps and a boost of foolhardy egocentric power, I now propose a vote against my broadband service provider.  I apologize for the lack of updates.  Blame it on them.  I’ll be glad to give you their number.  I hope you like elevator music. 2.  When I travel, I rarely buy souvenirs for myself.  ... read more
