vkeong writes: This is what I am craving for here at Seri Kembangan, a good plate of mee goreng. In Penang, you can find mee goreng stalls almost anywhere whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I have never seen any stall so far over here, sigh. Mee goreng is almost non-existent here! Actually I have blogged about mee Jalil before but it looked really bad because it was take away. Now that the presentation is so much nicer, I am sure you will be more tempted to try it. Mr. Jalil has been selling his signature noodles in Sungai Ara (which is also the place ... read more

boo_licious writes: Reunion appetizerBusy! Busy! Busy! Sorry but the blog has been sadly ignored these few days...Nevertheless the eating still continues though. My uncle and his family are down from Hong Kong and China these few days for Ching Ming. We did the deed yesterday - easy and painless as there were no crowds of people jostling for space in the cemetery. Am amazed at how clean the Hokkien cemetery looks now. Almost could not recognise it.Chicken herbal soupWe had this last night, since we didn't want to travel too far. My first time trying out the food from Reunion's menu. I love the mirrors, sheer curtains ... read more

boo_licious writes: Craving for noodles in the middle of the town is always a bad idea, especially when I'm not down town most of the time. I've been thinking of these fried noodles for quite some time, ever since we first ate here for a food crawl. Although the other noodles - Fried Hokkien noodles just struck me as average, I really loved the unusual Fried Meen Seen - tiny thin strands of vermicelli.Took me a total of 3 times before I finally got to taste the dish - because everytime I went down town, it was either raining or not the right day. I finally struck lucky, one Thursday night. ... read more

babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**Today is Yuanxiao (in Mandarin, Yuan literarily means "First" while Xiao refers to "night") Festival, more popularily known as Chap Goh Mei (in Hokkien). This is the last day the lunar new year is celebrated, the song I meant here is Yee Sang (raw fish in Cantonese) haha cos we'll need to wait for another year before we can savour this delicacy again. Errrr but in my case, this may not be my last cos I'm having a dinner tonight :pEarlier, I had lunch with Mr Chairman and the Evil Cow at Restoran Hong Ngek which we visit once in a while. How irony my first review on Hong Ngek was round about ... read more

vkeong writes: A while ago someone asked me where to go for good Hokkien Mee (or Prawn Noodle for those in KL) in Bukit Mertajam. Honestly I didn’t know because they taste pretty much the same to me. Although some were quite good, none of them was really outstanding which is worth recommending. That’s why I never blogged about Hokkien Mee. Then I stumbled upon Ah Xian’s blog about this Hokkien Mee stall just behind the Pek Kong Cheng temple. He blogged about it last year and I am pretty sure it was shown in his popular TV show - 阿贤人情味 on AEC. It is a good thing he ... read more

teckiee writes: We have everything all planned out for the last day. Eat everything we have been eyeing for, eat everything that we like, and do our last minute shopping. We head to the market again hoping for that particular packed noodles stall to be open and with less people. We were in luck to find three empty seats for us to squat. I had the rounded noodles with minced pork balls and bambo shoots soup. (10,000 Dong) The soup was just so so but I like the bambos shoots itself. Some might not like the bamboo shoot smell as it might smell too pungent. I'm used to it because I love them in my ... read more

vkeong writes: This is probably old news but Oldtown Kopitiam finally opened a branch in Bukit Mertajam. The kopitiam is big and may be the 2nd largest branch in Penang. I think Old Town Kopitiam at New World Park remains as the largest. Big leh? There’s a multi-storey car park above it. The location is a new business park with many new houses coming up in the surrounding area. I’ve been to this kopitiam a couple of times and find it a really nice and relaxing place to hangout and yamchar. My mom has never been to Oldtown Kopitiam so one day we decided ... read more

Tummythoz writes: So this may not be the best Penang Prawn Mee aka Mee Yoke aka Penang Hokkien Mee outside of the state. Nevertheless it deserves mention for serving the two distinct soup base when combined, satisfies my Penangite-ness. This stall in the coffeshop offers Penang Lor Mee better known as the dark sauced Lam Mee in Kuala Lumpur besides the former. Combine the prawn-y broth (reddish in picture) and read more
