Non-Halal

The Last Song For The Year

Malaysia

HN - yue sang
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**Today is Yuanxiao (in Mandarin, Yuan literarily means "First" while Xiao refers to "night") Festival, more popularily known as Chap Goh Mei (in Hokkien). This is the last day the lunar new year is celebrated, the song I meant here is Yee Sang (raw fish in Cantonese) haha cos we'll need to wait for another year before we can savour this delicacy again. Errrr but in my case, this may not be my last cos I'm having a dinner tonight :pEarlier, I had lunch with Mr Chairman and the Evil Cow at Restoran Hong Ngek which we visit once in a while. How irony my first review on Hong Ngek was round about ... read more

Review: Fock Kee Seafood Restaurant

Malaysia

FK - kong nam meen
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**As I've updated in my post about Fook Kee, they have now shifted across the road, within Queen's Park complex. Even their name spelt differently now haha but rest assured, they're the same people. The reason they shifted was the old place which is actually a shack tend to flood during heavy rain. It's more comfortable now at the new place. This round instead of having rice and dishes, we opted for noodles. I picked Kong Nam meen since we've never tasted their version and this was how it looked like - deep fried sang meen (fresh noodles) overflowing with not too starchy eggy gravy topped with generous serving of prawns, squid, pork meat, baby corn, ... read more

Kai Yong - Chicken Rice
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**I was wondering around Petaling Street area looking for stuff and I got hungry along the way. I was too lazy to walk further for a chee cheung fun fix with the current HOT wave going on in the city, so I dropped by this place called Kai Yong. If I remember correctly, my ex-colleague said this is one of the shop he patronises after school instead of Nam Heong. Since I always go Nam Heong, I decided to head for this Kai Yong instead, for a change. Kai Yong's shoplot has a very very tall ceiling which made the place looked roomy and airy. I sat at the side which is quite warm but cool ... read more

Review: Restoran Foong Foong

Malaysia

FF - dumplings in broth
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**Mention "Foong Foong", most KLites will immediately think of Ampang yong tau foo (beancurd and vegetables stuffed with fishpaste). It's so famous that it needs no introduction. I have been here since I was a kiddo. We always drop by here on our way to my aunt's house in Kampung Ampang Tasek. It has been a while I last went there since she have moved out of Ampang. Anyway, I went there quite recently with Yozora, JW and another colleague for lunch. Yozora was buying the two lunch and I happily tagged along upon her invitation kekeke... wai sek ma!Parking can be horrendous unless you reach there like noon to grab a space in front of ... read more

Happy Days

Malaysia

Madras Lane Curry Laksa
babe_kl writes: Since everyone went on a happy meal, so I may as well join the bandwagon...I went to Madras Lane, again sometime back... Other than CCF and YTF; I also love the assam laksa and curry laksa but had to sweat thru lunch as it's HOT eating curry under the zinc roof!YozoraNiteSky ordered a bowl of curry laksa and I was undecided since I was wearing a white shirt that day. Anyway, I succumbed to the temptation and had this absolutely sinful bowl of curry laksa!!!If not mistaken, this bowl is from the stall, ... read more

Review: Huen Kee Claypot Chicken Rice

Malaysia

HK - Huen Kee Claypot Chicken Rice
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal** I’ve been following Heun Kee up and down the road for the past 10 years! Oh no, no!! Heun Kee is not a super star nor a celebrity, just that I’m the Claypot Chicken Groupie!!! I’ve lost count the number of times they’ve shifted for the past 15 years but thank goodness, Heun Kee is now rooted at the corner of Jalan Yew. When they first started their business in this current lot, the cooking of claypot rice was done at the back kitchen but I guess that was a bad idea since the charcoal stoves are indeed an advertisement to them to attract customers. So they moved the stoves to the front and now no one can missed them out ... read more

Review: Chuka Cafe

Malaysia

Chuka
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal** Since I came in super early today, so I better quickly do this up!!! Tucked away in a faraway land towards the old Subang Airport is this Japanese eatery located in a condominium block called Chuka Cafe. This place has been around for a long while but I never got round to check it out until my brother spent dinner sometime back. When we were there, the other 3 tables were occupied by some Japanese. Seems like this place is well patronised by the Japanese community in that area. As this dinner was eaten quite some months back, my memory of the items are pretty vague but let's just ... read more

Restaurant Sai Gong

Malaysia

teckiee writes: One of my colleagues brought me here to celebrate his 10th anniversary working in the company. It's not some where near work, so we all drove to Restaurant Sai Gong in 63 Jalan 1/62D, Medan Putra Business Center in Bandar Menjelara Kepong after work. It didn't take me long to locate the place because the restaurant is in the same area where The Bird is. (Bookings can be made by calling 016-6000655)The dishes I try were just awesome so I just had to bring my family here to try. I keep ranting how great the food is until my sis had to shut me up LOL! ... read more

Soong Kee Beef Noodles
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**Soong Kee at the intersection of Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin (Silang) and Jalan Tun HS Lee needs no introduction at all as it has more than 60 years of history behind it walls. Well not at the current walls but at least at the cooking section. Previously (at least more than 6 years ago), they do not have a proper front for patrons to sit. We always ended sitting along the corridor of the building behind it. Thank goodness they have renovated the shop front and it's so pleasant so dine here these days. The only problem coming here is there is hardly any parking around.Anyway, this is one of our fave place to drop ... read more

Restaurant Chin Hiong

Malaysia

teckiee writes: It was about 8.30pm when we arrived at Restaurant Chin Hiong. (Lot 2, Batu 22, Jalan Batu Arang, Kampung Sungai Bakau. 03-6092 0628) Other than the few flogger that I have met before, I met five other flogger during this dinner. Hi you all :D Anyway… I was lost for words when I saw the golden soup bowls that were placed on our table when we first entered the restaurant. None of the other tables had this and this made me feel like I was a Chinese royal family having dinner. Quite over the top actually for a Saturday night dinner hor? …but I think after this, I might just buy ... read more
