Review: Restaurant Wong Fook Kee

Malaysia

WFK - Duck and harm choy soup
babe_kl writes: On the day I posted up the Harm Choy Tong (Pickled Mustard Cabbage Soup), I was secretly hoping for a bowl to warm me up on that super cold afternoon (it was raining heavily that day). Sighhh but have to wait for weekend before I could cook another pot. Fate would have it when we decided to drop by Restaurant Wong Fook Kee at Tengkat Tong Shin. Whilst ordering, they ask if we wanted any soup, hubby asked what kinda soup. When the words "harm choy ngarp" (pickled mustard cabagge and duck soup) came up, hubby quickly said yes... hahaha he's a soup lover. Later I confessed to him that I was hoping for some that afternoon and he ... read more

Bao Bao Pan Mee @ Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya

Malaysia

boo_licious writes: Continuing on the pan mee trail again. This time round, I got to try the famous Bao Bao pan mee. An established name in town, they have branches in Puchong and Pandan Indah. The set up within the shop is simple - square wooden tables and chairs, with an open cooking space at the end of it.You can order a variety of noodles - thin, thick or even hand pinched. What makes their pan mee unique vs the rest of the others - a generous sprinkling of these fried crunchy items. These crunchy bits are actually shredded stuffed bean curd skin with fish paste.... read more

Beehoon Breakfast

Malaysia

Penang_bb_served_2
Robyn Eckhardt writes: It's a sunny Saturday morning in Penang and we're on a mission. Back in June we walked up to this Nyonya kuih vendor's stall two mornings in a row, only to be told 'sold out'. Today, taking no chances, we arrive well before eight and are rewarded with two servings of just what we came for: kerabu beehoon, a tangle of rice vermicelli tossed with sambal belacan, calamansi juice, and chopped herbs. What's sold here isn't made by the vendor himself, but by an elderly Nyonya lady who learned to make the kerabu from her mother-in-law. The sweet kuih and bak chang (leaf-wrapped rice dumplings) also on offer ... read more

Bakewell Pudding…..or Kaya Kok?

Malaysia

The Original Bakewell Pudding Shop
Lyrical Lemongrass writes: It is 1860 in Bakewell, Derbyshire. A visiting nobleman arrives at The White Horse, a local inn. He spots a sullen faced woman yawning at the Reception, and approaches her.'Harlow. Here got food ah?' he asks.Mrs. Graves, upset at the rude interruption to her lovely daydream about nasi lemak with sambal sotong and lots of ikan bilis, gives him an irritated look and scurries to the kitchen to check on supplies and emerges with a triumphant look.'All gone already,' she proclaims. 'Only got strawberry tart. How?''Aiyah, strawberry tart only ah?' he sighs.'Ya lor. Today got ... read more

Cagayan’s Revisit

Malaysia

teckiee writes: I had dinner with my group of best buddies a few weeks back at Cagayans. I don’t think there’s many other better place for dinner with good pork dishes, a nice environment, value for money and some where close to where we all stay. I ordered my favorite the pork Binagoongan, pork Adobo for my buddy who missed his Philippines food, and also not forgetting the pork ribs. I ordered the Fat Piggie (RM46.90) 8 ribs, this time in the classic sauce. I didn’t quite like this sauce as compared to the Oriental sauce. Shall stick to the Oriental sauce the next time around, or maybe try the spicy sauce. Anyway, I tried to order a little ... read more

Review: Bee Connection

Malaysia

BC - Sambal Belacan Chee Cheung Fun with Fu Chuk
babe_kl writes: One of my colleague introduced a bunch of us to this place, Bee Connection, for lunch a couple of months back. One of us is a HUGE fan of chu cheung fun (rice rolls) did not hesitate to say yes when we asked what is their specialty. Funny, I have walked passed here countless time but it never caught my eyes that they have a few varieties of chu cheung fun and so many variations of honey drinks. Well, it was not too late... for a sweet gem have been found amongst the IT stuff in Plaza Low Yat.On separate occasions, I've tried their Sambal Belacan and Sweet and Spicy versions. The Sambal Belacan is topped with ... read more
