a taste of Malaysia

Malaysia

team bsg writes: Many European travellers congregate in Pantai Cenang, one of the more popular beaches in duty free Langkawi Island. At night the main street takes on a bright carnival atmosphere with all the bright lights you tend to associate with an Xciting & happening place. We were pleasantly surprised at the range and variety of fine eating establishments here ; Arabic , Moghul , Irish , Italian , Chinese , Thai etc , etc . The choice is very wide indeed .Towards the Casa del Mar Hotel from the Underwater World on a warm hungry night ( Langkawi is reputed to have one of the warmest climates in Malaysia ), you will probably be ... read more

jaguh kampung

Malaysia

team bsg writes: Authenticity & ambience is the marketing catch phrase of many a Wannabe Cafe now sprouting up all over in new shoplots & chic Shopping Malls. For deep down , these F/B pros acknowledge the unseen pull of the sentimental eaters and gluttons . For who doesn't love the food that one grew up with , or those that were enjoyed with fellow innocent (ignorant) kiddie friends , say in or around those tempestuous adolescent years in the kampungs by the river banks or new villages 8 km from town ?...and so when we hear of rave reviews ( yet again ! ) of kampung simple fare making it bloatingly big in mega cities in stone walls replete with ... read more

Haji Samuri Kajang Satay

Malaysia

Haji Samuri Kajang Satay
vkeong writes: This was my dinner tonight - Haji Samuri’s famous Kajang Satay. It’s surprisingly fast and cheap to reach Kajang town from Seri Kembangan, only 20 minutes and RM1 toll. The real problem starts when you’re in Kajang town itself. It’s a small town but there’s a lot of cars. So, getting around would take quite a while even for a short distance. Read more if satays interest you.. We ordered 10 chicken satays, 10 fish satays and 5 beef tripes satay. Beef tripes is at 9 o’clock, chicken at 6 while fish at 12.... read more

kajang satay
vkeong writes: I have been busy over the last weekend to prepare myself for my new job in Cyberjaya starting later this month. So, I went down to KL/Kajang/Kepong/Serdang/Damansara to look for a place to stay as well as shop for furniture at IKEA. Of course, I also visited some of my favorite eating places and share it with you guys. First stop is Kajang, where I went for its famous Satay Kajang. Needless to say, when people mention sate Kajang, the first restaurant they would think of is Haji Samuri. I think most people have already tried and blogged about it so there’s no need for further introduction. They ... read more

Sup kambing
Lyrical Lemongrass writes: He lifted the cover of the huge metal pot to scoop up the soup with a wooden spoon that had seen better times.  His appearance matched his possessions.  His hands were gnarled, veins apparent, and a huge silver ring enveloped his ring finger.  The chopping board was a thick slab of serrated wood, the centre indented from the massive amount of destruction caused by the chopping knife.   But for the moment, nothing mattered except for the aroma of spices and bones emanating from the pot.  Mohd Jhabar’s sup kambing is a hearty broth that is enough to revive the engine, and the aroma is enough to revive the spirits.  The mutton pieces, five in each bowl, are tender enough ... read more

Day 1 : 40km northwest of Yogyakarta

Malaysia

teckiee writes: The engine wouldn't start! The flight was 35 minutes behind schedule but we still got on the plane. Something to do with the batteries we were all told. Landed at the Surakarta (Solo) airport 10 minutes early despite the delay. The plane was going at 800km per hour.First think we thought of was lunch! We have arranged for a driver from our hotel to pick us up from the airport, so it was easy to ask him to make a detour for lunch. WE were brought to a Japanese Shabu-shabu restorant at first ...*heh* But I asked him to bring us to some where that served Javanese dishes. So, we ended ... read more

7-Day Detox Programme: Post Mortem

Malaysia

babe_kl writes: REJOICE!!!My 7-Day Detox Programme has finally ended. I had to get back to work on the 8th day, so just to check what Pea had mentioned earlier... I wore a long shirt nipped at the waist and a straight trousers on that day. I had to keep pulling my trousers up... I noticed there is at least 1 inch of excess at the waist. The shirt no longer fit nicely at my waist... looked baggy, aiyoh I didn't realised I kinda looked like a bag lady somehow when the day wore on.I felt rejuvenated and energised at least without much yawning thru the day especially the dreaded 4pm cycle.Just not to shock my body, ... read more
