TTDI Rojak Stall
babe_kl writes: Look out for this mini van along Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 1. It's usually parked in front of 7-11 (the road besides KFC).This wonder mini van serves excellent fruit rojak and tauhu bakar (stuffed tofu)! We loved the rojak here simply because of the fragrant rojak sauce with the right amount of belacan in it. Mixed together with various sliced fruits like cucumber, turnip, young papaya, guava, raw mangoes, water apple (jambu air) and pineapple. Serving together were slices of deep fried yau char kwai (crullers) and topped with chopped roasted peanut plus a huge slice of crispy homemade keropok!!! We ... read more

boo_licious writes: One of my favourite places to dine at the moment, at the Gardens, is this little place next to Isetan, serving good food and yummy desserts. I love the clean look of this place - especially the green sofas (currently my fav colour) and the repainting of kopitiam chairs and tables to a soothing green and pastel blue.Mushroom and 3 Cheese Melt on Toasted Multigrain (RM18)Food served here is fresh with an emphasis on natural and organic ingredients. I especially love their desserts as, they use real butter and unbleached organic flour. Makes a difference in taste. Crispy Duck Salad with Pear ... read more

Shariff Nasi Kandar Istimewa

Malaysia

nasi kandar shariff
vkeong writes: Because Nasi Kandar originates from Penang, it is no doubt the best ones are here too. This dish has managed to do very well in Penang with restaurants coming up at every corner. And that’s even with the tough competition among Pelita, Kayu, Kassim Mustafa and many others. Recently I have moved away from dining in these chain restaurants because of the expensive price. Shariff Nasi Kandar Istimewa in Gelugor has got to be one of the cheapest nasi kandar stall in the whole Penang island. And because Shariff’s Nasi Kandar is not only cheap but also great tasting, many people would line up as early ... read more

Mee Goreng @ Bangkok Lane

Malaysia

bangkok lane mee goreng
vkeong writes: A while ago when I was talking to my lunchmates, they mentioned a mee goreng stall in Bangkok Lane that was featured in Ah Xian’s eatery program. I didn’t watch it so I can only listen to their description. From what I heard, seems like the cook can fry the mee goreng in a very unique way. He can stir fry the noodles and spin the wok at the same time, somewhat like a performance. And even the mee goreng’s presentation looks promising. But in my opinion, this is one of the overrated hawker food in Penang. Although the noodles look really appetizing, ... read more

boo_licious writes: Chopsticks with pasta?Regular readers of my blog should know I am a great fan of the Rakuzen group of restaurants and Japanese food. Hence, when I heard about their latest venture at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, I knew it would be where I'll be dining on my day off. Instead of sushi, this time round, the place serves pasta, hence the name Pasta Zanmai.Grind your own black sesame seedRight opposite Sun Moulin Bakery and next to Carl's Jr on the Promenade side, which connects the old and new wings together, it can be hard to spot this place as it is hidden behind Shojikiya's Japanese foodstuff. boo_licious writes: The famous char kuey teowThere has been a lot of write up with regards to this famous Char Kuey Teow. A recent one at the NST prompted me to go search for it and I discovered all the stalls, which were at Restoran Subang Ria has shifted to Restoran Jamal Mohamed, the corner shop right at the other end. Rumours are flitting the reason why they moved is because the owner wanted to open his own stores. I guess you can't fool the locals as this place is now packed while the other restaurant is basically "catching flies".Nasi Lemak stallBeing a first timer, I was skeptical ... read more

King Crab with my buddies

Malaysia

teckiee writes: Buddies, thank you for being there for me through thick and thin, through mountains and rivers, through all the arguments and misunderstanding, through carrots and cabbages, and listening to and reading my rants until your ears and eyes fall off. I don't know how to give something impromptu, but this is my 15 minutes speech for you. Crab Baked with Creamy Butter in Claypot. The creamy butter sauce wasn't as nice as before. It was out too thick and all clumpy =( When having lunch with this bunch, I remembered something. Something which I am not proud of. This bunch have always been there for me. They took care of me. They don't judge me. They don't ... read more

One of my favourite foods too, the nasi lemak, in an elevated status. And this is important, because one has to realise that nasi lemak can be enjoyed in any form and anywhere. This meal, which once started off as simple fare of rice, cucumbers, anchovies and spicy sambal has since moved on to grander things. Sambal sotong (squid), sambal kerang (cockles), beef and chicken rendang ... read more
