team bsg writes: so do tastesMalaysian Cuisine is quite interesting at the eating tables.. We have seen a family recoiling in horror ( at least the mom ) upon seeing that the soup that came with the delectable nasi ayam smelt un-ayam. Why Maam that is one of our soupy delicacies if you purrrlease ! But...Then during every pre-holiday rush 7-course Corporate Muhhibah Dinners cum dance parties involving staff , the organiser will have her hands full with the big Q ... Day 4 : Missing the Jogja street food

Malaysia

teckiee writes: After having the horrible breakfast, I really didn't have the mood to have the egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast though I was told it tasted good. I walked out to the alley and found this lady selling gudeg. Without a second thought I bought a pack from her for only IDR10,000.I chatted with one of the local chef in Jogja the day before and was told that there are many different types of Guged. I am not sure which this one is but the daging sapi (the buffalo meat) is cooked with thick black sweet sauce instead of the coconut milk version I have tasted ... read more

Faces Steak Garden

Malaysia

large orange juice
vkeong writes: If you happen to be in Tanjung Tokong area and want to have some cheap Western food, Faces Steak Garden is not a bad choice. There are quite a selection of food and the prices range from RM7.90 to RM17.90 at most. The restaurant’s lighting is minimal so the photos may appear blurry and do not look as good as it should be. If you are having the meal with your partner I would recommend ordering the fruit juice at large size @RM5.50. It is definitely more than enough for two and more worthy compared to the normal size @RM3.50. The large cup is at least ... read more

Westernised Lumut

Malaysia

team bsg writes: While on assignment in Lumut lately , we were recommended to one or two cafes, bistros and bars including yes ! a steakhouse . These are some of the interesting sights and sounds ( + colors ) that went our way in this surprisingly Europeanised tourist town. At least in 2 Cafes & Bars here we have noted over a few nights that the expatriate community comprising many Englishmen dominates the bar counter and , well shall we say the tables too . the still growing Lumut Waterfront .......recently a covered state-of-the-art walkway from the Lumut Bus Station sprouted overnight ( literally) and has now reached the Lumut Jetty ! ... read more

Lyrical Lemongrass writes: ‘Delicious!’ I exclaimed, as I savoured the moist chicken patty in my mouth. I found out later that it was because they had used the whole chicken and not just chicken breast to make the patty. The thin sesame sprinkled buns were toasted to a slight crisp and liberally buttered. The pickles contrasted well with the burger. I was told that they made their own pickles. ‘Smoked salmon on chicken?’ I questioned. ‘What an unlikely combination!’ I was getting more and more mystified by the second. But this non-believer was soon shown the light. The cheesy sauce wrapped up all the flavours and made my burger encounter an out-of-body ... read more

Lyrical Lemongrass writes: 1. Old Friends. When a Makan Club member gets married, we honour her. This is my pictorial tribute to my dear friend, Jo aka Pretty Pui, who married her childhood sweetheart on 15 December 2007.Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. - 1 Corinthians 13 v 4 - 7.2. ... read more

boo_licious writes: Last night we had a Food Bloggers Gathering at Rick's Cafe, Casablanca at One Bangsar organised by the wonderful Just Heavenly duo, Nigel and Allan (Thanks guys!). Just a small group which was great fun as it meant a shorter wait time for the food. Believe me if you're a non food blogger dining with a group of food bloggers, it can be a pain to watch your food arrive on the table but get kidnapped for a few minutes for "picture taking". Although there was no Bogey or Bacall at this Casablanca inspired restaurant cum bar, we did find great food from the chef Tim Yee who was formerly from Med@Marche.... read more

boo_licious writes: Salmon Sashimi (RM30) There's an abundance of Japanese outlets in The Gardens to fit everyone's budget. First, there's Sushi Zen with a budget outlook, then Sushi Zanmai which is similar to Sushi King and finally Yuzu, a sister restaurant of Ninja Jones. Located on the top floor, Yuzu is tucked away in a corner right next to Isetan. No black clad ninjas here but you get lots of beech furniture and an interesting slate fountain in front. Seafood Motoyaki (RM28) Since Yuzu opened on 26 September, they're running a promotion - 10% discount for a la carte items and 25% discount for sashimi items ordered. It's available till end of October 2007. Good and bad ... read more

Review: Euro Deli Shop

Malaysia

ED - potatoes with bacon bits
babe_kl writes: **Non-Halal**Before Elcerdo (must click to view new outlook of website, very cute haha) arrives at our shore, Euro Deli is THE place to have our fix of German Roast Pork Knuckle. We usually patronise the outlet, Euro Deli Grill, at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng where it is a spacious restaurant as compared to the Deli at Damansara Kim. Nevertheless, this round we visited the Deli together with a bunch of friends.Since a few of us arrived pretty early and have gotten hungry staring at the various sausages and cold meat in the fridge, J decided to order some appetiser whilst waiting for the rest to arrive. She asked for a plate of potatoes ... read more

I reckon I'm approaching the end when it comes to these bazaars since I've covered almost all of them which is relatively easy for me to access. There are some new ones which I do want to explore like Datuk Keramat, Taman Melawati, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and etc but those will be for the weekends only when we have the time. In the meantime, for a change here's some Japanese food.Wagyu Beef DonThe El Presidente of the Japanese Food Kawan Association may be away for some R&R (rest and relax) ... read more
